Setup Advisor

The Setup Advisor walks you through setting up a car, one step at a time. You drive a short run, the advisor looks at your laps and asks how the car felt, and it recommends one change. You make that change in the game, drive again, and tell it whether the change helped.

It never changes your setup files: you make every change yourself in the game’s own setup screens.

If you change several things at once and the car gets better, or worse, you can’t tell which change did it. Making one change per run means every run tells you something.

The advisor works through the same steps race engineers use, in order:

StepWhat it looks at
Make It DrivableOptional. Calms a car that’s too unstable to drive consistent laps: wandering under braking, a rear that steps out when you lift, twitchiness at speed.
TyresHot pressures against your target, and how evenly the tyres heat across the tread (camber).
Ride Height and RakeWhether the car bottoms out, and its ride height front and rear.
AeroBalance in fast corners, and top speed.
Anti-Roll BarsBalance in the middle of slow and medium-speed corners.
Springs and DampersHow the car copes with braking, kerbs and quick changes of direction.
Alignment and DifferentialTurn-in, and traction on the way out of corners.

Tyres and Ride Height and Rake come first for a reason: until the tyres are in their window and the car isn’t bottoming out, every later judgement is unreliable. The later steps unlock once both are done.

If a car has none of the settings a step adjusts, the step says so and counts as done.

  1. Open the game’s Setup Advisor tab in the web app and choose the car and track.
  2. Drive a run of about five laps. Three laps are often not enough to bring the tyres up to temperature.
  3. Save your setup in the game. If you’re on the default setup, save it too, so the advisor can quote your actual settings (“Front anti-roll bar 3 → 4”) rather than just “stiffen the front anti-roll bar”.
  4. Back in the advisor, tick the laps of your run (the newest are ticked for you; Reload laps picks up laps driven since you opened the page), choose the setup file you drove on, and answer the questions you can. Answers are optional but change the advice. Click an answer again to clear it.
  5. Click Analyse Run. The advisor shows the change for your next run, with the evidence it came from. If that doesn’t fix it, it shows what to try next.
  6. Make the change in the game, save the setup and drive another run.
  7. Tell the advisor how it went, under Driven a run with this change? How did the car feel? (see below).

When a step is right, or good enough for you, click Accept this step and move on.

After driving with a change, choose one answer:

AnswerWhat happens
WorseThe advisor tells you to put the last change back first, then suggests something different. It won’t suggest that change again in this step.
No differenceThe same, but the change is only moved to the bottom of the list rather than ruled out.
A little betterAnalyse your new laps: more of the same is ranked first.
A lot betterThe advisor suggests accepting the step, or analysing the new laps for one more change.
Fixed itThe advisor suggests accepting the step.

If the advisor offered more than one change and you made one of the alternatives, pick it under Which change did you make? first, so the feedback is about the change you actually made.

Your answers to the questions carry over to the next run, so you only need to change the ones that feel different.

Result of your last change shows the readings before and after the change, beside how it felt. If the numbers and your feeling disagree, trust your feeling: the advisor never overrules you.

  • Drive consistently. The advisor compares runs, so drive each run the same way. It drops laps that are well off your pace (a spin, traffic) and judges the rest.
  • Judge the advice. Every recommendation shows the readings behind it. If you disagree, skip it or accept the step.
  • Target hot pressure: the Tyres step uses the default from the desktop app’s game tab, which you can change for each car and track. GT3 targets don’t suit every car.
  • Core temperature window (optional): on the Tyres step, set a window for the car and track. Core temperatures are then rated against it, and where the car has brake ducts you’ll get a suggestion to open or close them.

AMS2 stores setups in a format other software can’t read, so its Setup Advisor works from your answers alone. The steps are the same, but each one asks how the car feels, and the advice describes the change to make (“soften the front anti-roll bar one click”) rather than quoting your current settings. Ticking laps isn’t needed: click Get Advice once you’ve answered.
